Mouth Cancer Awareness Day – Wednesday 18th September 2013
The Exeter Dental Centre is proud to be the only practice in Exeter to sign up to the Free Mouth Cancer checks on the inaugural Mouth Cancer Awareness Day on Wednesday 18th September. Members of the public are invited to undergo free screenings at our centre with dentist Dr Ruairi Cunnane, our associate dentist, who has been working as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation trust.
Mouth cancer can be deadly and early detection is essential. In the UK, nearly 8,000 people are diagnosed with mouth cancer every year. Cancers can occur in any part of the mouth, tongue, lips, and adjacent areas like the throat, salivary glands, pharynx, larynx, sinus, and other sites in the head and neck area. In its very early stages, these mouth cancers can be easy to ignore.
Early detection of mouth cancer is vital, and that is why it is so important that we, as dentists, play a role in helping patients seek treatment where needed. Click this link for further information: http://www.mouthcancerfoundation.org/get-involved/mouth-cancer-awarness-day
