Why should I visit the hygienist?

At the heart of everything we provide here at The Exeter Dental Centre, is dental hygiene. Maintaining good oral hygiene is an important ways of preventing long term dental problems. By keeping your mouth healthy you can prevent tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath and reap all the benefits of better wellbeing. As part of our outstanding dental team, all our hygienists work hand in hand with our dentists offering expert advice and support to all our patients.

What is a dental hygienist?
Our dental hygienists are specially trained to work as part of our clinical team. They play an important part in dental health care and are mainly concerned with preventive dental health and treating gum disease – showing you correct home care and helping to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Why is this dental hygiene treatment important?
Patients who have regular professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar will have less risk of gum disease. This, combined with looking after your teeth and gums properly at home, which the hygienist can help you with, will help keep your mouth healthy. There is also the added advantage of improving the appearance of your teeth, making them look cleaner and whiter, as well as helping with fresh breath.

Will the treatment hurt?
We make sure that all treatment is pain free. If you are sensitive to scaling and polishing our hygienists can use anaesthetic creams, or give you some local anaesthetic to make sure you’re comfortable.

How much does it cost?
Our skilled hygienists will carefully and gently treat your gums, removing active disease. They will demonstrate the best techniques for your home oral hygiene regime and motivate you. Our half an hour appointments cost £59 and are available six days a week.

Do your hygienists offer anything else?
We offer patients our Airflow treatment, which is the leading teeth cleaning system, using a spray of air, aesthetic polishing powder and a gentle jet stream of water to rapidly remove surface stains and dental plaque. This non invasive treatment, gently removes staining, is kind to the tooth surface and significantly improves tooth brightness, giving you noticeably lighter and brighter teeth. Results are immediate!
